# Grant writer compensation check

Version 1.0 · Prepared October 3, 2026 · GrantWriterMatch Editorial

Use with an actual fee proposal. Distinguish work-based payment, outcome-based payment, professional standards, applicable law and funder permission. This record is not legal advice or a contract.

Copy this record into your purchasing notes. It is an agreement-review checklist, not a legal conclusion.

**Provider and service:** ____________________
**Fee calculation, in plain language:** ____________________
**Event that creates the obligation to pay:** ____________________
**Amount owed if the application is unsuccessful or never submitted:** ____________________
**Total service fee, minimum commitment and mandatory extras:** ____________________
**Payment dates and treatment of any credited advance:** ____________________
**Applicable professional standards and the provider's explanation:** ____________________
**Proposed funding source for the fee:** ____________________
**Funder permission, applicable cost rule and required approval, if relevant:** ____________________
**Legal or procurement question needing review, and reviewer:** ____________________
**Written changes needed before acceptance:** ____________________

If the writer cannot explain what you owe when the grant is denied, the agreement is not sufficiently clear for the decision. If someone says “the funder allows consultant costs,” ask whether that permission covers proposal preparation, the proposed payment model and the relevant period.
